04 Nov Gratus Walks for Out of the Darkness
On November 3rd, Gratus Capital joined with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to participate in the Out of the Darkness Community Walk at Piedmont Park in Midtown, Atlanta. Supported and hosted by AFSP, the Out of the Darkness Community walks are held in hundreds of cities across the country. The walks give people courage to open up about their own struggle (or loss) and the platform to change our culture’s approach to mental health. This type of community walk supports those who have lost a loved one including a friend, child, or relative, and also supports those who struggle with their own mental health issues.
Making an Impact
Gratus team members joined together walking as “Team Tyler Kleinrichert” in support of a fellow team member. Over 4,500 walkers and volunteers filled Piedmont Park and were cheered on by a local Atlanta cheer team and many other well-wishers. As of, November 4th, Team Tyler has raised $7,400 with an additional $1,000 pledge from a dear friend of the family. Atlanta’s walk had a posted goal of $365,000 and as of November 4th reached $444,805!
The purpose of this event is not just a fundraiser. The money raised will go toward funding a 3-digit 24/7 staffed crisis line to get information to those who are facing mental health challenges, struggling with suicidal thoughts as well as be a resource for the family and friends of those who face these difficult challenges.
With more than 400 walks across all 50 states, there are many opportunities to get involved with this great cause. Create or join a team, walk as an individual, volunteer, or even walk virtually! Click here to learn more about how you can connect with others, spread awareness, and save lives.
