Gratus Mobilizes with Action Ministries to Take On Hunger

Gratus team members joined at Action Ministries on September 6th for their third volunteer event of 2019. Action Ministries was founded in 1963 with the vision of communities throughout Georgia joining together to serve their neighbors in need, ending hunger, ending homelessness, and bridging achievement gaps.  Action Ministries’ mission is to mobilize communities to address the challenges of poverty by focusing on hunger relief, housing and education.

A Day of Service

Volunteers began their service day with the a Tough Choices exercise that helps individuals understand the critical factors impacting families facing hardship and ways we can work as a community to improve access to the tools and resources needed to thrive. Afterwards, the volunteers then split into two teams. One team built SuperPacks, a program that works in partnership with local schools to help bring meals to kids that face hunger over the weekend. The second team helped build food boxes that are ultimately delivered to schools, churches and community centers across Georgia.

As the event came to an end and the team packed up, the leaders of Action Ministries counted 9 pallets of newly boxed SuperPacks which equal to 450 boxes of food to be delivered that day. The Gratus volunteers were able to pack enough boxes to provide approximately 9,000 meals to children and families in the metro Atlanta area.
